Family-run Questa truck presses burgers thin on screaming-hot steel, and those lacy, crackling edges are winning festivals.

There's a reason the slogan is “Big Smash. Bigger Flavor.” Every patty at Forged by Fire hits the flat-top as a ball of Certified Angus Beef and gets pressed flat on the spot, so the edges go crisp and the crust does the talking.

The truck opened in 2025, spent its first summer on the festival circuit across Northern New Mexico, and came home to Questa this fall. The regular schedule is back: Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 11am until sold out.

The heaviest hitters on the menu are the pastrami-stacked Heavy Hitter and the triple-patty Big Boi Smash. Chicken people get their own lineup, led by the Firebird. Either way, you're going to want extra sauce.

Meet the family behind the flat-top

The Forged by Fire family in front of their smash burger trailer, holding their award — **THE FORGED BY FIRE FAMILY** with their People's Choice award in Red River.

Forged by Fire started in 2025 with a trailer, a flat-top, and a family willing to put in long days and late nights. Their very first event summer was “an unforgettable ride,” as they put it: packed events, endless burgers, and a crew that showed up and gave it their all.

Then came the part they were waiting for. “Questa, we're coming home,” they announced this fall, bringing the regular schedule back to the community that helped them get started.

“We're not just building a food business. We're building a brand. A name. A legacy.”

The next generation is already in the business. In October, the Forged by Fire kids ran their own Lemon or Lime Shaker Stand at the Little Taos Trade Show, “learning firsthand what it means to work hard, serve their community, and build something of their own.”
